British Airways is introducing free fast in-flight connectivity by way of satellite agreement
Travelers aboard the airline will soon use high-speed wifi in the air without charge after a recent agreement from the billionaire's satellite firm.
Complimentary plus High-speed Internet Across the Board
British Airways announced that this complimentary, “reliable and lightning-fast” connectivity service from SpaceX is set to be accessible for customers flying economy, business, or premium cabins from next month.
Expanded Deployment Over Multiple Airlines
The holding firm of British Airways, IAG, confirmed it had secured an agreement involving Starlink to offer wifi access for more than 500 jets across its carriers, such as the Irish airline, the Spanish carrier, and Vueling.
Smooth Connectivity starting at Gate to Arrival
British Airways explained that this rollout for this service formed part of a multi-billion pound “modernization” program that will provide lag-free connectivity coverage for travelers starting at the gate to landing, including when in flight across large bodies of water or isolated areas.
Passengers may connect several gadgets while they will not require a separate access code.
“Gamechanging for us and our customers, enhancing onboard service in the air our flights by giving passengers continuous connectivity throughout the flight.”
Current Internet Services
Restricted internet service is currently offered for BA passengers across most of their planes using the .air platform.
Enrollees in the airline's reward scheme may transmit messages and text-only correspondence in the air free of charge, while passengers looking to watch music, films, and content throughout their travel if not flying in business or first can expect to be charged between £4.99 and twenty-one pounds ninety-nine for a wifi plan.
The Satellite System
The provider operates a network comprising thousands of spacecraft and it's managed by Elon Musk’s company.
Latest Upgrades at the Airline
The airline's leadership have been working to turn operations again after years of cost cutting, IT problems, industrial action, plus large-scale layoffs.
The airline stated that use with smart technology had helped it to achieve the airline's on-time performance at record highs since over a decade ago.
Earnings Performance
In August, the carrier disclosed a increase for earnings for the first half of this year, contributing to its owner profit upward.
IAG will announce their earnings for the quarter this summer on Friday.
Additional Starlink Deals
British Airways’ news comes shortly following telecom carrier the telecom firm announced it was teaming up with SpaceX to improve cellular service in rural parts of the UK, by allowing users to seamlessly hook up handsets via space-based systems if there is no regular network coverage can be found.
