Diving into a Unique Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have found numerous engaging independent titles. Yet, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer lets you play a protagonist that is truly a turd trying to navigate to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: press a jump control. In 150 stages, encounter tough enemies and access a shop to purchase customizations for your fecal avatar.
Time your movements carefully, since one error requires restarting the level. Jump using air pockets to propel the poop upward, traverse disappearing surfaces, and interact with triggers to reveal secret routes. Earn coins and use them on more difficult game content as gameplay intensifies.
Visually, the demo boasts eye-catching stages and catchy background music. The simple graphics with moving basic polygons may remind gamers of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's hard to name previous releases where you are a coiled turd, gaming have long featured scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from protagonist droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as soil enrichment. And of course, such content shows up a lot in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already earned significant recognition, like taking top honors at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is ready at present on Steam, with the final release set to arrive on computers on November 19.
