Heroic Train Employee Endures Severe Wounds Amid Mass Knife Incident on Express Train

A courageous train staff member who stepped in to protect travelers during a multiple stabbing incident on a high-speed train has sustained life-threatening wounds, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Terrifying Event

CCTV video allegedly shows the employee attempting to halt the attacker as the train traveled between Peterborough and another station in Cambridgeshire. Witnesses recounted a frightening 14-minute duration after the train left Peterborough, with bloodied victims fleeing through compartments.

The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, remains in custody for questioning. Police announced a significant incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.

Emergency Response and Consequences

The event on the weekend led to 11 people being cared for in hospital after the train made an unplanned stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Several people have since been released from medical care.

A witness filmed the individual brandishing a big knife and being subdued with a stun device as he faced officers on the station. He was allegedly heard yelling, "Kill me, kill me."

“This terrible incident has affected many people. Our sympathies go out to the injured and their loved ones – particularly the brave employee of train personnel whose family are being assisted by specialist officers,” stated a high-ranking police official.

Union Reaction and Appeals for Action

Rail associations were quick to commend staff and call for increased measures. One labor leader stated he would be “requesting urgent meetings with government, train companies and law enforcement to ensure that we have the best possible support, resources and robust protocols in operation”.

A different association leader urged the rail company and authorities “to act quickly to examine security, to help the impacted workers, and to ensure that no incident like this happens again”.

Driver Commended for Rapid Thinking

The train driver who halted the train at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “well”, and has been praised by association officials for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“He did not stop the train in the center of two stops where it’s obviously difficult for the first responders to access, but he carried on traveling until he arrived to Huntingdon, where the assistance was pretty much already there,” explained a union representative.

Further Details

Police said they got the initial emergency calls at 7:39 pm, and the service was compelled to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

An witness described initially thinking if the situation was a holiday prank, but quickly realized from people's faces that it was real.

Police have stated there is nothing to indicate the incident was a terror-related incident and have requested the public to come forward with any further details.

Train operations on the affected line are anticipated to experience delays until Monday, with passengers advised to postpone their journeys where feasible.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation are asked to reach police by sending a message a specific number with a case code.
