Former NFL player Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to address an attempted murder allegation related to a shooting that happened in May, with his attorney submitting a innocent plea on his behalf.

Detention logs in Essex, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was freed on Tuesday morning for his move to Florida. Brown, among the most famous figures in the National Football League, had forgone extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was taken after being apprehended in the city of Dubai.

Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an email that he has already filed a written not guilty plea to the murder attempt charge. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as soon as Wednesday morning for a bail proceeding, Eiglarsh stated.

Based on his arrest order, Brown is alleged of taking a handgun from a safety employee after a star match bout in May and discharging two bullets at a person he had fought with before. The claimed victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed investigators that one shot grazed his throat.

Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was merely protecting himself from Nantambu.

“The steps he was forced to take were purely in self-defense against the reported victim’s aggressive actions. Brown was targeted that evening and acted within his rightful privilege to safeguard himself,” Eiglarsh stated.

Brown was not promptly detained because initially police did not identify Nantambu as a victim. It not until later in May that Nantambu provided a complete statement about the event to authorities and named Brown as the shooter, the report says.

From his online content, Brown had been staying in the city of Dubai for multiple months. In a message after the altercation, Brown claimed he was safeguarding himself because he was “jumped by several individuals who attempted to take my valuables and inflict physical damage to me.”
