Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
