US Armed Forces Conducts Lethal Strike in Pacific, Leading to Four Deaths
As stated by a senior defense spokesperson, the US armed forces carried out a fatal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.
“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel linked to a terrorist group in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established narco-trafficking route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”
Background and Recent Strikes
The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the US president accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, vowing to escalate the military buildup.
Just on the previous day, US defense officials said it had conducted strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, over 20 strikes have killed at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Government Justifies Tactics Amidst Scrutiny
The government has encountered increasing pressure to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. However, officials have refused to do so. The administration has defended its efforts as a success, arguing it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.
Although the administration has said the campaign is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a top official seemed to suggest a wider political aim. In a recent interview, the senior advisor said the leader “aims to keep on destroying vessels until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”
This suggests the military campaign may be linked to a strategy to remove Venezuela's sitting government.
